ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END

The proposal to wind-up the Association’s activities on 31st December 2025 was approved by members present at the AGM held on 16th May 2024.

This will be a remarkable 50 years since Shell-Mex and B.P. ceased operations at midnight on 31st December 1975. It will also mark some 48 years of the 44 Club’s existence.

Branch activities will continue as normal, where there is sufficient interest and willingness in a branch, but there would be no central coordination, funding or help available from 31st December 2025.

Many of you asked for a transcript of Rick’s address which was ably read by Ken Longhurst at the AGM.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE 44 CLUB

The SMBP 44 Association (the 44 Club) exists to sustain the family spirit of Shell-Mex & BP Ltd. It represents the 44 years of existence of Shell-Mex & BP Ltd (1932-1976) and provides some social "glue" and support to former employees of Shell-Mex and BP Ltd.

There are 16 active branches across the country where members gather to socialise, reminisce or indeed just enjoy the company. Have a look at our Branch Page and see if there is one near you. New members are always very welcome!

The London office coordinates everything and a quarterly magazine, the 44 Club News, is sent to all members.

Rick Westley is the Chairman – read what he has to say about the club here.
